Sabrent introduced Rocket DDR5 SO-DIMM 4800MHz-CL40 Memory For Laptops

Sabrent has announced new DDR5 memory modules: the Rocket series products are made in the SO-DIMM form factor, making them suitable for use in laptops, nettops, embedded systems, and other compact devices. Sabrent’s new DDR5 memory in SO-DIMM format under the name “Rocket DDR5”. The memory kits are available in 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM modules with 4,800 MT/s specifications. The memory modules are ideal for laptops, ultrabooks, and mini-PCs.

The presented solutions operate at a frequency of 4800 MHz (CL40). Compared with DDR4 memory, as noted, increased reliability and stability, as well as reduced power consumption. The Rocket SO-DIMM DDR5-4800 family includes modules with a capacity, of 8, 16 and 32 GB. They are endowed with a copper cooling radiator that provides efficient heat dissipation under high loads – for example, in gaming systems.
Built-in on-die ECC (Error-Correcting Code) error correction tools are provided. We are talking about full compliance with JEDEC standards, which guarantees compatibility with modern hardware platforms. The modules will be offered individually, as well as in sets of two and four pieces. Thus, the maximum total volume reaches 128 GB.

Reliability has also been improved with the introduction of on-die error correction technology. Memory availability is improved by splitting the internal 64-bit (72-bit with ECC) channel into two independent 32-bit (40-bit with ECC) channels and additional refresh of the same bank. Combined with other features, including those that enable module capacity up to four times higher than consumer DRAM, DDR5 ensures that your multi-core CPU does not suffer from memory starvation. You can pack more storage than ever into your portable device and take it with you on the go.

Sabrent explained in its press release: “It seems like DDR4 has ruled the roost forever. Finally, new motherboards and architectures have allowed memory to grow wings with the advent of DDR5. Improved clock speeds promise up to twice the bandwidth of DDR4, all with lower voltage for better efficiency. To further help with that last bit, DDR5 has on-board power management to reduce motherboard cost and complexity. This is particularly nice for all-new, powerful laptops and embedded devices”.

The new Sabrent Rocket DDR5 SO-DIMM memory presented in the DIMM variant common for desktops and now Sabrent is adding one in the SO-DIMM form factor. The modules are partly suitable for compact desktop systems, a notebook, or other embedded devices. The JEDEC standard is followed here to ensure compatibility and reliability. The first SABRENT Rocket DDR5 16GB SO-DIMM 4800MHz (SB-DR5S-16G) module can already be ordered but costs $179.99 for the time being. In comparison, the 16 GB DDR5 desktop modules cost $179.99.

The memory kits come in the following configurations:

SB-DDR5S-8G: 8 GB DDR5 SODIMM-4800 MT/s CL40 Modul
SB-DDR5S-16G: 16GB DDR5 SODIMM-4800 MT/s CL40 Modul
SB-DDR5S-32G: 32 GB DDR5 SODIMM-4800 MT/s CL40 Modul

The manufacturer offers the new Rocket DDR5 SO-DIMM memory as single modules as well as packs of two and even four. So far, the modules have been very competitive in terms of price. The desktop DIMMs are also surprisingly easy to overclock.
