Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leaks Indicate Focus on Efficiency Over Power
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is confirmed for a mid-November launch and will rival Apple’s A16 Bionic and MediaTek’s powerhouse Dimensity 9100. A new leak from China suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will focus on efficiency, not raw performance. In November, Qualcomm is set to unveil its next flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. There have been many rumors about the potential performance next-gen flagship SoC. The new leak now claims the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s successor will feature the highest efficiency.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
According to the grapevine, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be designed by the same team as the Snapdragon 835. The direction this time out will be on efficiency at the cost of bare performance. In 2016 when the Snapdragon 835 debuted. It was thought to be 25% more efficient than the Snapdragon 820. Primarily thanks to advancement from a 14 nm node to a 10 nm node.
That doesn’t ring particularly amazing, though, as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 claws out a promised 30% improved efficiency over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 just down a move to TSMC’s operation. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be produced by TSMC. It’ll be intriguing to see how Qualcomm delivers substantial efficiency advancements without a qualitative node leap.
