Tronsmart Shadow Review: Ultimate Gaming Headphones

The Tronsmart Shadow Headphones is a wireless gaming headset, making the quality/price ratio one of its strongest strengths. The Chinese company continues to amaze with its new products, and even these Shadows are no exception. Clearly, there are flaws, but they do not affect the value of a decidedly above-average headset.

Design
In the red colour in our possession (there are also in total black), the cap is lovely. The attention to detail is almost obsessive, and the metal core gives back the feeling of a premium product. The headset is very rigid, sturdy and heavy, but this does not affect everyday use. Once worn, you will almost forget you are wearing them. The pavilions and the upper headband will adapt perfectly, thanks to the memory foam you will find under the faux leather cover.
However, due to their metal construction, they are not very portable. In fact, the Shadows cannot be folded and have rather generous and bulky dimensions. It is a small defect, which, however, will guarantee a longer duration over time. Furthermore, outside the pavilions, there are RGB LEDs that illuminate the Tronsmart logo, but unfortunately, they cannot be controlled in any way. The metal grids that protect the logo have only an aesthetic function, as the cap is totally closed.

Compatible devices
As mentioned above, the Tronsmart Shadow are wireless headphones and use a USB dongle to communicate with the devices you will use. On PC you won’t have any problems, but some consoles will give you some headaches. This defect is insurmountable even on PC, where the headphones find their natural habitat.

Experience of Use
Apart from the defects listed above, the Tronsmart Shadows manage to be loved. During the testing week, they performed very well, demonstrating enviable reliability for a “cheap” headset. Latency is completely absent; you will never have a desync between what you see on the screen and the audio that arrives in your headphones. In each game, you will have full control and full awareness of the environment you are in, thanks to the spatial audio that will make you understand all enemies’ position. The sound quality of the 50mm drivers is insane. All tones are faithfully reproduced, although bass tends to outweigh the rest. This is not a defect for a gaming headset, as it will be easier if you have to identify an enemy’s position through the sound of footsteps.
The volume level reached by the Shadows is sometimes harmful to health. If you take them to the maximum, you risk hearing damage, so avoid doing it. Distortion is almost non-existent even in the most difficult moments, and every sound will always be clean. The controls on the back of the left pavilion also allow you to turn the volume up or down quickly according to your needs, even if at first you will struggle to locate them. Finally, the transmission distance is vast; I covered almost my entire house without losing the signal.

Microphone
The microphone of the Tronsmart Shadow also stands out for its quality. It is clearly not suitable for professional recording, but it is clear enough in any situation. The noise suppression it is equipped with makes it a tad closed, even if it does not affect your friends’ communication. Furthermore, the fact that it is removable is a plus that is hardly found on gaming headphones.

Battery
As mentioned above, the inability to monitor the battery percentage did not allow us to have a clear and detailed assessment. In any case, know that the numbers declared by Tronsmart are quite credible; in a week of testing, we only uploaded them once (that is, as soon as they came out of the box). With “normal” daily use, the battery has the potential to last a long time. It also depends on the volume you use; the higher it is, the shorter the duration will be. Charging via USB-C is a little too slow. It honestly doesn’t seem plausible to us to have to wait hours to charge a 1000mAh battery.

Verdict
The Tronsmart Shadow are certainly an interesting product, full of merits and rather marked defects for a careful user as he writes to you. It is undoubtedly a qualitative leap in many respects, but it could have done much more. Some lightness affects the final evaluation and does not make it take the title of best buy. In any case, they remain a very valid product for the build quality and sound quality, as the usual flagship of Tronsmart.
